Arbi Roast | Taro Fry
Arbi roast, Cheppankizhangu varuval, taro fry are just a few names given to a simple dish made from the taro/colocasioa root which is shallow fried with a few basic spices. This dish is vegan and can be put together in less than 30 minutes. This preparation was not something I grew up eating as colocasia leaves and not it’s root are an inherent part of Mangalorean cuisine. During my initial attempts with cooking the taro root, I have gone through a struggle to clean the root. Similar to the yam, the taro root has a mucilage that can be itchy when touched due to the presence of calcium oxalate in the plant, as a result of which I used to abandon the mission half way through. Veg Recipes for Lent
Lent is a solemn religious observance for Christians, a period that lasts approximately 6 weeks between Ash Wednesday and Easter Sunday. During this period one is urged to give up vices or temptations of any kind. Most Christians go on a pure vegetarian diet (one that includes no meat, fish or eggs) or a semi vegetarian diet (one that includes fish, seafood & eggs) I have tried to compile a list of almost all vegetarian recipes on my blog that cover a wide range of categories like breakfast, snacks, soups, salads, starters, mains & sides that will help you plan your menu this Lent. This compilation pretty much sums up the veg recipes on my blog excluding sweets, desserts and festive foods as Lent is a time of penance and self denial. If I find that I have missed some…
Crispy Fried Chicken Burger
What’s better than a store bought burger? A homemade one! One that is made fresh and crispy! Here’s presenting Crispy Fried Chicken Burger because this is not your regular, run of the mill, store bought patty kinda burger. This one is made using a chunky slice of boneless chicken marinated in buttermilk, coated in flour and fried to perfection before being placed on layers of fresh lettuce, onion rings, tomatoes and mayo and covered between two halves of a burger bun. We paired it with homemade lettuce salad with croutons and some homemade fries. So delish! This was our first try, during the pandemic. The recipe has surfaced only now 🙂 And oh, yes, this was my son’s work. Our not so little anymore chef loves to try out a lot of recipes and create his own magic in the…
