Easy pressure cooker method to cook your favourite brown basmati rice

Pin Pin

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1: Washing the rice

Measure the rice into a large pot and wash it in 2-3 changes of water or till it runs clear.

Step 2: Pressure cooking the rice

Add 2-1/2 cups of water to a pressure cooker  and bring it to a boil. Now add the washed rice to it. I don’t season the rice with salt yet at this stage as I prefer doing it later in case I am following a recipe. Cover the cooker with the lid, place the weight (whistle) and cook on full heat till 5-6 whistles are released. Reduce the heat to a simmer and let the rice cook for 25 minutes. Turn off the heat and let the cooker cool down to room temperature or till the weight comes off easily

Step 3: Serving the rice

When you area able to open the cooker easily, fluff up the rice using a fork and keep it aside. You can serve it right away with any curry or side dish of your choice or add the rice to any recipe that calls for it.
