Hi all! It’s time for another boshi. Today’s meal plate is a fish lover’s paradise. The thato-amshi thikshi is shark in a hot & tangy curry, one of my absolute favourites! We had a lot of fish to clear in the freezer and so I decided to fry some. The sanaki fish is a chunky one and is also called as ‘mudaav’ or ‘ghol’ in different Indian languages. I am not very sure of its English name. If what we call as ‘sanaki’ in Mangalorean Konkani is the same as what the Goans call as ‘Chonak’ then it is called as Giant Sea Perch in English – however, I will request my readers who are well versed in fish names to assist me here. Please do drop me a line at ruchikrandhap@gmail.com and let me know!
Also on the plate is string beans or runner beans made ‘thel piao’ (oil & onion) style. My favourite homemade prawn pickle adds a sparkle to the whole meal too! All recipes are below, please click on the title above each image for the same.

Hi Shireen,
“Sanaki” in Mangalorean Konkani and “Chonak” in Goan Konkani is known as “WHITE SNAPPER” in English.
The Snapper comes in two varieties – White and Red.
So you have “White Snapper” and Red Snapper” and are silver and reddish in colour respectively.
The “Red Snapper” is known as “Thambdi Chonak” in Goan Konkani.
With warm regards.
